100 Years - Mordedura de Cumpleaños
This past week my sweet Grandmother celebrated her 100th birthday. I adore this woman.
For about the past month I've been talking to her about the idea of sticking her face in the cake for the first bite. Surprisingly she agreed to it the first time I asked. =D I love that she still has that adventurous spirit at 100 years!!! She was a little concerned that she'd get cake in her hair and wanted to know who would help her clean it out - but when it all went down she was so dainty and graceful about it that she needed nothing more than a napkin to clean around her mouth. Haha. Did I mention that I love her?
She also said that she would only agree to this if I would make the cake. And she wanted German Chocolate. Deal Grandma. Deal.
So I made a German Chocolate sheet cake (to share with the family/crowd that came to her party) but when it came to her "smash cake" I cheated. Sure I made the German Chocolate insides, but I hired Hilary at Hilary's Happy Cakes to frost it for me. I wanted it to be perfect, and I knew that if left completely to me it would be lacking in that perfection. Hilary was fantastic - I sent her a picture of grandma's shirt and she frosted the cake in colors to complement her chosen wardrobe for the day. Isn't it lovely.
In fact, the entire setup was centered around this new shirt that grandma got for her party. Dark grey background and table covering, and silver crown with burgundy-red numbers.
Everything turned out perfectly! Grandma was VERY excited to take that bite of cake and asked me several times throughout the night if it was time yet. Haha. And when it was over she looked at me a said (with a squeal in her voice), "Thanks, that was fun!"
Feliz Cumpleaños Grandma!
I love you dearly and hope to be even half as amazing as you are.
